The police in Borno State have recovered 147 unexploded bombs suspected to have been kept by Boko Haram in a house and in a remote village near Maiduguri, the state capital.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Clement Aduda, told journalists yesterday in Maiduguri that the 147 bombs, known as Cluster Ordinances (UXOS), were discovered at Sumo village, few kilometres from Maiduguri, where insurgents had launched a daring attack on the city on January 25 this year.

He said the second bomb cache was discoveredin a boy’s quarters of a house belonging to a senior Federal Government official in the city, adding that the police were alerted by spirited and vigilant residents.

“I am gladto inform you that at about 9 am on February8, 2015, 147 unexplodedCluster Ordinances (UXOS) were recoveredat about two kilometers away from Sumo village, near Jakarna,Konduga Local Government in Borno State by a combined team of Bomb DisposalUnit, policemenwith troops attached to Jarkana general area,” the CP said.

He also said that the explosives had been destroyed “in good time without injuries or damage to lives and property.”

He stated that the unexploded ordinance (UXOS) were suspected to have been kept by Boko Haram for the February 1 attack on Maiduguri.

He urged the peopleto always alert the securityagencies whenever they discover strange items or packages suspected to be Improvised ExplosiveDevices (IEDs) around their residences and commercial centres.
