Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba, has condemned in strong terms the pre-election violence in Jos, Plateau State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. Commissioner of Police Emmanuel C. S. Ojukwu, said that Abba is “saddened by the ugly developments” in which campaign vehicles, buildings and valuable properties worth millions of naira, belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) were damaged in Jos and Port Harcourt respectively.

“IGP reminded politicians, party supporters and well meaning Nigerians, that politics is a means of enthroning custodians of the people’s common wealth, for the overall benefit of all. As such it should be played with every sense of decorum devoid of religious, ethnic and all other forms of primordial sentiments,” Ojukwu said in a statement issued this afternoon in Abuja.

“IGP assures Nigerians that the perpetrations of these unaccepted and heinous acts will not go unpunished as the Police will do all it takes to bring them to justice,” the Force PRO added.
