The outgoing Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ikioye Orutugu, has called on officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command to remain professionally minded in the discharge of their duties and committed at all times.

He made the call during his pull-out parade from the Nigeria Police Force at the Police headquarters in Amawbia on Wednesday, following his retirement after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years and completing a distinguished and meritorious career in the Force.

Addressing serving officers at the event, the retired police chief harped on the importance of integrity, professionalism, and independence in decision-making.

He said, “Always be professional in the discharge of your duties. You do not owe your landlord anything, you do not owe any rich man anything, and you do not owe money. Rather, money should work for you.

“Never compromise your integrity because of material possessions. A good name is more valuable than gold and silver.

“Always do the right thing and never allow yourselves to be influenced by powerful individuals or external pressures. Remain independent in making professional decisions, uphold the ethics of the Force, and carry out your responsibilities without fear or favour.”

While expressing gratitude to the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Orutugu thanked them for their cooperation and dedication during his tenure as the CP, saying that their collective efforts helped restore peace and normalcy across the state.

Reflecting on his time in office, the outgoing Police Commissioner recalled that Anambra State was facing significant security challenges when he assumed duty but notted that his administration, with the support of officers and other stakeholders, was able to improve the security situation considerably.

He added, “When I came, I saw and conquered. When the lion roared, the criminals fled, and we succeeded in chasing them away. Today, Anambra State is better and safer because of the efforts we all made together.

“I also commend journalists in the state for their professionalism and unwavering support. Their objective reportage helped project the achievements of the command to the public.

“When I came to Anambra State and met the media, they gave me overwhelming support. At one point, I wondered whether I would be able to sustain the cordial relationship because their cooperation was exceptional.

“They are the people who tell the world what we are doing in the state. Because of their support, I received many awards and commendations. I sincerely thank the journalists for standing by the command throughout my stay in Anambra State.”

AIG Orutugu further praised the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for his outstanding performance, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the success of his administration in the state.

He described Ikenga as a dedicated spokesperson whose effective communication and public engagement contributed significantly to the positive image and achievements of the Anambra State Police Command during his tenure.
