The Forum of National Youth Leaders of All Political Parties in Nigeria (FNYLPPN) has postponed its planned protest over reported xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The Forum, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Chairman, Mr Eze Chukwu, said the decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The statement said the decision also followed an engagement with the Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the DSS advised the group to reconsider the timing of the protest due to security concerns arising from other planned demonstrations scheduled for the same day.

The Forum said it subsequently held consultations with its members and resolved to postpone the protest in the interest of public safety and national peace.

It reiterated that the planned demonstration was intended to draw attention to the welfare and safety of Nigerians living in South Africa and to advocate for diplomatic solutions to reported attacks.

The Forum said it appreciated ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to engage relevant authorities and address concerns affecting Nigerians in South Africa.

It added that the postponement did not affect its commitment to seeking justice for victims and promoting the protection of Nigerians abroad.

The group said a new date for the protest would be announced after further consultations with relevant stakeholders.

It urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding. (NAN)
