Mrs Soludo with Chiziterem during her visit to the hospital
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, on Tuesday visited a 10-year-old boy, Chiziterem Franklin Ozuligbo, whose guardian allegedly abused, maltreated and inflicted horrifying injuries on his head, body, bottom, and other places.
The First Lady visited the child at the hospital he was transferred to on the prompting of the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike.
Speaking after the visit, Mrs. Soludo said: “Earlier today, I visited young Chiziterem at the hospital where he has now been transferred, to personally assess his condition and offer encouragement as he begins his recovery journey.
"I was relieved with the reassuring update provided by the medical team overseeing the child’s treatment.”
According to the First Lady who is also the founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, the medical team assured her that Chiziterem’s condition is now stable and that he is responding positively to treatment.
“While he still requires adequate medical care, emotional support, proper nutrition, and continuous monitoring to fully recover, it is heartwarming to see the progress he has made within such a short time.
"I can't comprehend why a woman, a mother will inflict this magnitude of injury on a child. He's still a child. This is shocking.
"The child is in so much pain. When they made attempt to turn him around, he screamed in pain and said, my head, my head. Why would someone do this to a child, I can imagine the kind if trauma this child has gone through and such trauma doesn't go away quick.:
"I will continue to monitor his recovery and ensure that he receives the care, protection, rehabilitation, and support he deserves", Mrs Soludo stated.
She urged residents to always endeavour to speak out anytime they witness such incident in their living area, noting that prompt reporting can help save lives and protect vulnerable children.
The First Lady noted that Chiziterem’s story has touched many hearts and serves as a reminder of society’s collective responsibility to protect every child from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of harm.
While thanking the medical team, concerned citizens, and everyone who has shown love, compassion, and concern during this difficult time, she called on residents to call emergency numbers 112 or 5111 to report any emergency.
