House of Representatives member for Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Aderemi Oseni, has shelved his widely speculated governorship ambition to run for the Oyo South senatorial seat in 2027.
Oseni, who chairs the House Committee on FERMA, unveiled his bid on Sunday, during a high-level meeting with the Ibarapa, APC Elders and Leaders’ Forum—comprising the influential G9 and expanded G64 caucus, held at the party secretariat in Eruwa, Ibarapa East local government area.
Oseni’s declaration follows recent strategic meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, where party leaders reportedly deliberated on consensus-building and unity ahead of the electoral contests.
This development marked significant shift, as the lawmaker was earlier widely speculated to be among the key contenders for the Oyo governorship seat.
The federal lawmaker unveiled his senatorial ambition, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, who expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by party leaders, stressing that his aspiration is anchored on consolidating and expanding his developmental strides.
He said: “This aspiration is not built on mere rhetoric, but on the continuity and expansion of a proven track record of quality representation and grassroots-oriented governance.”
“This is not about self-glory but a sacred responsibility to deepen development, deliver greater relief to our people, and ensure inclusive governance.” (TRIBUNE)
