Prioritise development of Urhobo communities, NDYFGG urges Delta State Governor

NDYFGG National President, Comr Ukueku

The National President of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O.O. Ukueku, has expressed disappointment over the way Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, treats Urhobo communities in the state.

Ukueku in a statement he issued on Monday noted that despite the Governor's Urhobo heritage, “Urhobo communities continue to face significant development challenges, including poor road infrastructure and limited empowerment opportunities.”

The activist cited the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) Secretariat, which he described as being in a state of neglect, and contrasted it with the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Headquarters in Bayelsa State, “which has received significant investment from the state government.”

The NDYFGG leader urged the governor to prioritize the development of Urhobo communities, citing the need for improved infrastructure, empowerment programmes, and appointments. He expressed concern that “the governor's impact has not been felt in Urhobo communities,” and called on him to emulate the example of other governors who have prioritised the development of their own communities.

Ukueku also praised the former Governor of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi A. Okowa, for his inclusive approach to governance, and expressed disappointment that the current governor has not followed suit. He called on Governor Oborevwori “to reconsider his approach to leadership and prioritise the development of Urhobo communities.”
