Security forces in Adamawa State have rescued two kidnapped victims following a gun battle with suspected kidnappers in Shelleng Local Government Area of the state.

Sources confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out after receiving a distress call from Labaran Village in Wuroyanka District at about 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

The sources revealed that some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had invaded the village and abducted one Alhaji Babayo Kalchingi, 50, and his 19-year-old son, Hammadu Alhaji Babayo.

The attackers also attempted to abduct another son of the victim, Bello, aged 17, but he resisted and was shot in the back.

“Upon receipt of the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Kiri Division, mobilised a team of operatives alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to the scene.

“The injured victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Numan for medical attention while the security team pursued the fleeing kidnappers,” the sources said.

The sources added that the operatives engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun duel, forcing them to flee with gunshot wounds and abandon the abducted victims.

The rescued victims, Alhaji Babayo and his son Hammadu, were safely reunited with their family. One empty shell of an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the scene as an exhibit.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. (Zagazola)
