Somtochukwu Maduagwu: How Arise TV anchor was rejected by hospital after armed robbery — Colleague

Late ARISE News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu

New details have emerged on the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, the ARISE News anchor, reporter, and producer who died during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, on September 29, 2025.

While initial reports suggested that the 29-year-old broadcaster was directly attacked by the armed robbers, a fresh update by one of her colleagues in Arise TV, Ojinika Anne Okpe, paints a different picture.

Okpe disclosed this while presenting on the Arise News Morning show on Tuesday.

According to Okpe, Somto jumped from her home when she heard that 14 armed robbers had come to her house.

She noted that Somto didn’t die on the spot; she went to the hospital, and she was rejected.

“I reached out to our correspondent in Abuja, who detailed the circumstances surrounding her death.

“She jumped down from her home when she heard about 14 armed robbers came to her home, and she did not die on the spot. She went to the hospital, and she was rejected.

“This really is a tragic incident; her life could have been saved, but the hospital rejected her.”

Born on December 26, 1995, Sommie’s death has since sparked anger and grief, not only among colleagues and family but also among Nigerians who see her story as another grim reminder of insecurity and systematic neglect.

She died in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. She was 29 years old. (Daily Sun)
