The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has secured the conviction of 22 Companies in cases involving alleged Investment and online Investment-related offences in Nasarawa State.
The EFCC Abuja Zonal Directorate Lead, ACE I Michael Wetkas, disclosed this when he led his team on a courtesy visit to the Nasarawa State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Aisha Mohammed Usman, on Tuesday in Lafia.
He commended the Nasarawa State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Aisha Mohammed Usman, for her support and commitment to the fight against financial crimes in the State.
Speaking during the visit, ACE I Wetkas said they were at the Nasarawa State Judiciary Headquarters to appreciate the Chief Judge and the Nasarawa State Judiciary for their support and cooperation in the fight against economic and financial crimes.
He disclosed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had secured the conviction of 22 companies in Lafia in cases involving alleged investment and online investment-related offences, stating that the achievement underscored the importance of effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the Judiciary in the fight against crime.
According to him, combating crime was a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of security and law enforcement agencies, the Judiciary and other relevant stakeholders.
The EFCC Abuja Zonal Directorate Lead expressed the EFCC’s desire to strengthen its collaboration with the Nasarawa State Judiciary towards reducing financial crimes and other criminal activities in society.
In their separate remarks, some of the Superior Court Judges present, including Hon. Justice Simon Aboki, Hon. Justice Daniel D. Adeck, Hon. Kadi Mohammed Yahaya Usman, and Hon. Justice Habila Abundaga, commended the EFCC for its efforts in combating financial crimes and creating awareness of emerging criminal activities.
The Judges encouraged the Commission to ensure that relevant evidence and affidavits are properly attached and presented in cases filed before the courts to facilitate effective and expeditious adjudication.
In her remarks, the Nasarawa State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Aisha Mohammed Usman, thanked the EFCC delegation for the visit and commended the Commission for its efforts towards combating financial crimes in the country.
She advised the EFCC officers to ensure that the most appropriate and comprehensive charge covering the alleged offences is presented first, in accordance with the provisions of the law when drafting charges.
The Nasarawa State Chief Judge therefore assured the EFCC delegation of the state’s judiciary’s continued support for lawful efforts aimed at combating crime and promoting justice in Nasarawa State, wished the team success in the discharge of their duties and expressed hope that the collaboration between EFCC and the Judiciary would continue to yield positive results in the fight against financial crimes.
