President Tinubu
The National President of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O. O. Ukueku, has commended Delta youths for peacefully expressing their concerns about governance in Nigeria and especially in Delta State during the recent Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) rally in Ughelli and the October 1st gathering in Warri.
Comr. Ukueku, who is an opposition leader in Delta State, in a statement personally signed and made available to newsmen, noted that many Deltans feel they are yet to benefit meaningfully from the current administration in the state.
He said: “It is very unfortunate that in this era where Delta State receives huge federal allocation and improved IGR, Delta youths are still grappling with unemployment and hardship.”
Quoting the scriptures, specifically Mark 8:36, Matthew 16:26 and Luke 9:25, he asked: “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
According to him, with Delta State’s revenue and federal allocation, more can be done to lift Deltans out of hardship if resources are properly channeled to the grassroots.
Comr. Ukueku added: “When I encountered the mammoth crowd of Delta youths who joined the NDC rally in Ughelli and what I saw in Warri on October 1st, I knew there is growing dissatisfaction. If the yearnings of Delta youths are not addressed and the space for opposition voices remains limited, it may affect the fortunes of the ruling party and the number of votes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will garner in Delta State in 2027.”
Comr. Ukueku, a prominent youth leader in the Niger Delta, who is the First Elected Executive Pioneer National President of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Scholarship Students Worldwide, former Vice Chairman of PDP, Ughelli South LGA, Delta State, and one-time Acting Chairman of SDP in the State, expressed concern over the current state of governance.
He stated: “It is worrisome that the impact of democracy is not being felt at the grassroots as expected. What should be an all-inclusive government appears to be benefiting only a few, while the majority of Deltans, especially youths and women, are left behind. This must change.”
“Come 2027, Delta youths will make a strong statement through the ballot. If their plight is not addressed, it will be difficult to mobilize massive grassroots support for Mr. President in Delta State,” he noted.
He further observed that youth engagement and empowerment programmes have not been equitably spread across the State and are yet to be felt at the grassroots.
“The truth may be bitter, but it must be told in the interest of our people. His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, should be Governor for everybody. The grassroots, including Delta women and youths across all LGAs, should be carried along in governance and empowerment. This is the only way to ensure peace, inclusion, and massive support for Mr. President in 2027,” Comr. Ukueku concluded.
