Suspended RTEAN National Secretary-General, Yusuf Adeniyi
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has dismissed its National Secretary-General, Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi, over alleged misconduct and breach of trust.
The association disclosed this in a communiqué on Monday jointly signed by the National President, Alhaji Musa Mohammed, and the newly appointed National Secretary-General, Comrade Henry Ejiefor Ugwu.
According to the communique, the decision was taken during a meeting held on September 25, 2025, and presided over by the Deputy National President (Administration), Ambassador Mohammed Abubakar Bishara.
It said the union’s NEC adopted the recommendations of a seven-member investigative committee that probed the allegations against Adeniyi.
The association declared that Adeniyi is no longer authorised to act, function, or represent himself in any capacity as National Secretary-General of the Association.
In his place, Ugwu has been appointed as the new National Secretary-General with immediate effect.
Adeniyi was first suspended in August over allegations of misconduct and breach of trust. In response, Adeniyi dismissed the suspension and questioned its legality.
The RTEAN NEC subsequently constituted a committee chaired by Dr. Samuel Agbede, with Hon. Adamu Zubairu Jalaluddeen as secretary, to investigate the claims.
The union said it received and deliberated on the report and recommendations of the investigative committee constituted to examine allegations of misconduct against Adeniyi.
The association explained that the action was taken in strict compliance with its constitution and in line with the provisions of the Trade Unions Act, Cap. T14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (as amended).
The communique said: “That Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi is hereby dismissed from office as the National Secretary General of RTEAN with immediate effect.
“That Adeniyi is no longer authorized to act, function, or represent himself in any capacity as Secretary General of RTEAN.
“That Comrade Henry Ejiefor Ugwu is hereby appointed as the new National Secretary General of RTEAN with immediate effect.
This decision was taken in strict compliance with the Association’s Constitution, and in line with the provisions of the Trade Unions Act, Cap. T14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (as amended).
“The Association is hereby notifies all members, stakeholders, government institutions, security agencies, and the general public to take due note of this leadership change and accord full recognition only to Comrade Henry Ejiefor Ugwu as the duly appointed National Secretary General of RTEAN.
“The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria remains committed to transparency, accountability, industrial harmony, and effective collaborations with the Government towards advancing peace and development in the Nigerian transport sector.” (The Guardian)
