Management of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) Kaduna Area Office on Thursday tasked Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the need to help fight vandalism in the country.

Deputy Manager in charge of PPMC Kaduna Area Office, Shuaibu Rabo, made the plea while receiving the new executives of Kaduna NUJ led by the Chairman, Comrade Garba Muhammad, who paid him a courtesy call.

He said: “Pipelines vandalism remained a major challenge to the company. Journalists have a greater role to play in terms of educating general public on the danger associated to pipeline vandalism.

“We are appealing to the media to help us orient the general public on the risk associated with pipeline vandalism in the country. Federal Government and NNPC are trying their best to address the problem.

“This vandals are Nigerians and they live within our communities. These are few people making majority of Nigerians suffering. We believe that if pipeline vandalism stops all our refineries will work properly.”

Mr, Rabo explained further that protecting pipelines has always been difficult but expressed hope that very soon the issue would be over.

He also called for speedy trial of vandals arrested to serve as a deterrent to others.

Earlier, Comrade Muhammad urged the PPMC management to ensure adequate supply of fuel in the state.

The NUJ leadership also visited Operation Yaki unit of the state to meet with Retired Colonel Yakubu Yusuf Soja, the State Coordinator, who is the Adviser on Security Matters to the State Governor.

The Coordinator assured media of his readiness to work with the state media in fighting crime.
