Veteran Journalist Abuchi Anueyiagu
Veteran Nigerian Journalist, Sir Abuchi Anueyiagu, turns 60 today, Thursday, May 6 2021.
The versatile media and public relations practitioner was born on May 6, 1961 in Onitsha, and was having a silver spoon upbringing until the civil war struck. He soon found himself in the village where he completed his primary and secondary education and later found himself back to the city, this time Enugu, on a visit to his uncle.
There he eked out a living, founding himself first in broadcasting, later in print journalism (newspapers and magazines) and much later again in public relations practice.
In his journalism career, Anueyiagu worked in VANGUARD, THISDAY,The Comet, andNational Interest, among other newspapers.
The prolific journalist also worked inSports Souvenir,Complete FootballandClimaxmagazines. He equally had a spell withThe Guardianas its Correspondent in Ebonyi State.
He has held elective positions in journalism and the Church.
Two time Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ Enugu State Council, comprising representatives of national newspapers, radio and television stations that are not based in Enugu.
He was twice the State Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Anueyiagu was Secretary of Sacred Heart Parish Council for six years. He led his home town union in Enugu for nine years.
Currently he is President of Comm.638 Uwani Enugu, Knights of St. John International (KSJI).
At Umuchinemere Pro-credit Micro Finance Bank where he works, Anueyiagu, who trained himself in the university, is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Head of Human Resources.
His latest project is IZUNWANNE, an organization of senior serving and retired journalists of South-East extraction, of which he is the Administrator.
Anueyiagu is happily married with children.
