Rep Ifeanyi Ibezi
The 2019 National Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra State capital, on Wednesday affirmed the election of the member representing Idemili North/Idemili South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Ifeanyi Ibezi.
Ibezi, who contested on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was dragged to the election tribunal by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obinna Chidoka.
The Obosi-born younger brother of former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, had approached the tribunal seeking the nullification of the election on ground of, none compliance to electoral law Acts, multiple voting.
He had argued that the Independent Nation Electoral Commission (INEC) ought not to have conducted the supplementary election after the main poll which he won.
Delivering the judgment simultaneously, two out of the three member election tribunal, Justice R. Irele Ifijeh and Justice O. O. Odubanjo, held that the petitioner failed to establish that results he presented before the tribunal were generated during the election.
The tribunal maintained that INEC has the power to conduct supplementary election where the election was declared inconclusive.
On the premise, the petition was dismissed the petition.
Ibezi, while expressing joy for his victory, said it was an act of God and will of the people.
He urged his opponent to join hands with him to move the constituency forward saying it is a call for more work.
“We won’t relent in impacting lives positively in our constituency. I have attracted employment to most of graduates and more would be employed,” he said.
