Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has joined the call for the zoning of the Senate Presidency to the South East.
Ngige, who made the call during an interview with journalists on Monday, reeled out the names of former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzo Kalu and Senator Ben Uwajimogu, who is a ranking senator as those fully qualified for the position.
He urged his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), to consider them for the position.
Ngige said: “We have those that are ranking now. We have Ben Uwajimogu; he is now a two-term Senator, he is coming back from the ruling party.
“We have Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, who was a Federal Assembly legislator during the military regime. It’s counted, because it was a National Assembly, so he has got some ranking.
“Therefore, Orji Uzor Kalu is also qualified.
“Okorocha’s case will be determined before then.
“We now have some senators, unlike the last time when we had zero non-party senators coming from the South-East. There was nobody at all. So, the Southeast should definitely be in the equation, I mean the proportion of Senate presidency.”
The former governor of Anambra State, however, condemned the violence that trailed the polls in some states saying that election should not be a do or die exercise.
