Enugu APC guber candidate Ayogu Eze, at whose home the man was allegedly shot

An unidentified man was on Saturday shot at the home of Ayogu Eze, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Umuonu-Umuida, Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear.

The area has been cordoned off and a combined team of police and military were seen headed to the scene of the incident.

The victim is part of a group of observers monitoring the governorship and state assembly elections holding today in the state as well as other parts of Nigeria.

After the shooting, the observer group was held hostage at Eze’s compound until a combined team of the police and army came to rescue them and took them to the nearest police station.

“We were almost killed there,” one of them said.

A source in the area said the shooting victim has been taken to the hospital but is unlikely to survive.

“He’s unlikely to survive because he was shot in the head. His blood is everywhere if you go there,” the source said.
