Governor Obiano
The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has expressed joy at the level of voters’ turnout during Saturday’s House of Assembly election, describing it as peaceful.
Obiano, who voted at about 10:15 a.m. in company of his wife, charged voters to stay behind to watch their votes counted.
“As you can see, the voting centre is very peaceful and people are very anxious and are queuing up to vote. I hope it would be like that in all other polling booths across the state.
“I encourage the youths to stay behind to watch their votes counted and also follow through to the collation centres and make sure their votes counted,” he said.
Though the election was peaceful at Governor Obiano’s Aguleri area, it was a different scenario at Umuzocha Ward 5, 6, where gun-wielding youths stormed the polling unit and scared voters away.
It was gathered that the youths numbering about five stormed the polling unit and started snapping the security officer manning the poll but when he reacted, they descended on him, beating him to a pulp. It took the efforts of some people there to quell the situation before the youths were finally were taken out of the place.
