Delta state Resident Electoral Commiasioner REC, Dr Cyril Omorogbe
Ahead of Saturday’s Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly polls, the Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Cyril Omorogbe, has warned that any vote cast without the use of card reader would be voided.
Omorogbe stated this on Thursday during the stakeholders meeting held in Asaba, the state capital, with the leaders of political parties in the state. The REC insisted that any vote cast without the use of card reader would be cancelled.
He expressed the reason for the use of card readers as a concerned priority, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wants to give Deltans free, fair and credible elections. The commission, he emphasised, will not permit anyone to sabotage the process and if caught in electoral violence and irregularities that person will be dealt with by the law.
The RECadvised the electorate not to allow politicians to buy their conscience, assuring voters that March 9 will be better than the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
On his part, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in the State, Salisu Bello, has stated that the police is will live up to responsibility of keeping the peace and safety during the elections.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr. Fred Obi, expressed worry over the alleged importation of armed youths from a neighboring state to cause mayhem during election.
Obi called on the Federal Government and security agencies to check the menace of thuggery, adding that “election is not a do or die affair or to destroy lives, nor should see elections to be war.”
