Two feared killed, many vehicles damaged as APC factions clash in Lagos

Two persons were on Thursday evening feared killed and scores of vehicles destroyed as factions of the All Progressives Congress clashed in the Oto Awori area of Lagos State.

The state police image maker, Chike Oti denied any death in the violence but confirmed that there was “commotion” in the area and that the police moved swiftly to curtail the situation.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the Thursday evening clash was as a result of the last primary elections of the party in the area.

A candidate of the party had gone to the palace to receive a royal blessing from the monarch in the area when some armed youths reportedly waylaid him.

It was gathered that the angry youths, who attacked the candidate were angry at the party for the choice of the candidate for the party in the forthcoming elections.

A resident of the area, who simply identified himself as George told the Nigerian Tribune that “a candidate came to the palace and some loyalists of an aspirant, who lost the party primaries to him in the area attacked him and his entourage.”

He also added that “it was as a result of the last primaries that produced the candidate that came to the palace. The youths claimed that the party imposed the candidates on them”

Vehicles, belonging to politicians and those around the palace were destroyed by the angry hoodlums, who threw stones and broken bottles at each.

Oti, while confirming the incident said that the police responded quickly and that the situation had been put under control.
