Peter Obi casting his vote at his Amatutu ward 1 polling unit in Agulu, Anambra
Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has confirmed that he and some other stalwarts of the party were harassed by security officials hours before today’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
He made the confirmation after casting his vote at his Amatutu ward 1 polling unit in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
“Capital YES,” he said repeatedly when asked by newsmen if the rumoured harassment was true.
He called on people with voter’s card to come out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility or be disenfranchised.
“I encourage Ndi Anambra to come out and perform their civic responsibility and help Nigeria move forward,” he said.
The former Anambra State Governor, who came to vote in company of his wife at 8:45 a.m., said it was rather too early to say which way the vote would swing.
The ward of incumbent Governor Willie Obiano, Aguleri ward 1, was without the usual crowd that comes out during voting exercises.
But the Governor, who came out to vote at 10:15 a.m. in company of his wife, said the low turnout was not anything to worry about, saying that the voters whose polling booth was there were living close by and would come out to vote before the close of the exercise.
