Anambra CP Mustapha Dandaura
The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Mustapha Dandaura, has warned people nursing the idea of fomenting trouble during the forthcoming general elections to stay away from polling units or be ready to face the music.
Addressing journalists at the state command in Awka on Monday, the CP maintained that he had no favorite candidate in the election, saying that he would ensure a safe environment towards the conduct of hitch-free elections in the state.
He said: “I’m not in Anambra to support any candidate or political party. The Nigerian police in the state will remain neutral and focused.
“I want to assure the people of the state that we are going to oversee a free, fair and credible poll. Those who want to disrupt the exercise will be decisively dealt with.”
While saying that no political thug will be allowed access to the venue of the election, the new police boss reminded politicians that the election day is not meant for rally or campaign
Dandaura assured politicians and political parties participating in the exercise of fair and equal treatment, insisting in the course of the election.
On the issue of cultism and extortion which is currently ravaging the state, the CP stressed his readiness to fight the menace to a standstill.
The new Anambra police boss also warned officers involved in extortion or bribery to turn a new leaf or be ready to face the hammer of the law.
He said: “By the briefing I received from my senior officers, the level of cultism is gradually increasing and we’re going to face it squarely.
“Robbery and other heinous crimes have subsided. With the support of the state government, the police have achieved success in crime and criminality.
“I also assure you that in my tenure, the state will be one of the safest states in the country.”
