Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has warned that any person in military uniform found near a polling unit during the elections will be arrested except they are on essential services.
According to the Defence spokesperson, Brig. Gen. John Agim, the role of the military at this time is to ensure the security of lives and properties, insisting that the military has no direct involvement with the elections.
Brig. Gen Agim spoke at a world press conference on the elections in Abuja on Thursday.
He stated that while it is pertinent that military personnel perform their civic duty to vote as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, they must approach their polling units in mufti, devoid of any military accouterments.
