Ex-Governor Kalu
A socio-political and cultural group, the Abia Group for Peace, has berated former governor of the state, Chief Orji Kalu, over his alleged tendencies to destabilize peace in the state.
In a statement signed by its convener, Dr. A. C. B. Agbazuere, and members Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha, Barr. Agbai Iro Ogbuabia, Ugochukwu Emezuo, the group said that its attention has been drawn “to the mischievous and debilitating plot by Mr Orji Uzor Kalu to threaten peace in Abia State.”
It alleged that Kalu, in a recent publication in one of the national daily, stated that if the Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Choosy, tries to take their mandate by force that he will go by force. Kalu's threat allegedly reads: “If you try to take our mandate by force, you will go force.”
The group further accused Kalu of threatening to bundle Ude Oko Chukwu out of Nkporo “if he tries that nonsense.”
The former governor is also accused of invading Nkporo town and other and communities in the state with persons in military uniforms allegedly destroying billboards of political parties including that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The statement further reads: “It is also appalling that Orji Uzor Kalu on Thursday, January 31, 2019 in company of thugs and others in military uniform invaded Nkporo in Ohafia Local Government Area and destroyed several billboards belonging to political parties including that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Our group is therefore alarmed at the careless and unguarded outburst of Orji Uzor Kali, who is even being prosecuted by the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court for looting Abia State to the tune of over N7billion.”
The Abia Group for Peace expresses concern that such negative steps by Orji Uzor Kalu and his agents are likely to destroy the peace which the state has enjoyed in the last four years.
It therefore called on the Presidency, the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to avoid any breakdown of law and order in Abia State.
