Uduaghan lauds Delta Assembly’s sense of understanding

Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, CON, has lauded the Delta State House of Assembly for its sense of understanding, which he said has made the job of governance easy for him.

Uduaghan gave the commendation at the Third Anniversary Lecture of the Fifth Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly (DHA) in Asaba, yesterday.

Represented by his deputy, Prof Amos Utuama, SAN, the governor said: “Let me once again express my profound gratitude to members of the state House of Assembly for the understanding, cooperation, and support which has facilitated and lightened the tasks of governance. The relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in Delta State since the inception of this administration on May 29, 2007 has been harmonious. I solicit the deepening and sustenance of this cordial relationship as it is the effective elixir for government to remain focused and determined in delivering on the promises made to our people.”

He said the topic of the lecture, ‘National Dialogue – A Panacea for Growth and Development’, was most appropriate. He urged the House to be aware of the significant challenges that confront the state as a people and be prepared to overcome them.

In his welcome address, DHA Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, said that the “House deliberately embarked on intellectual exercise in the form of symposium to bring issues that concerns us as a people with the hope that through such intellectual intercourse we would be able to navigate and proffer solutions to issues that concerns us as a developing plural society.”

He welcomed the representative of Secretary to the Federal Government and former President of the Senate to the Federal Republic, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, represented by Senior Special Assistant, Research and Documentation, Hon. Ferdinand Agwu.

The guest lecturer at the occasion, Prof G.G. Darah, a delegate at the on-going National Conference in Abuja, enumerated the achievements of Delta State delegates at the conference and called on the state legislators to contribute and enact laws for the restructuring of the country, increase in oil derivation from 13 per cent to 50 per cent and creation of additional states in the country.
