Battle against outrageous fees takes new turn as LASU students convert Fashola’s office to kitchen

Aggrieved students of Lagos State University (LASU) protesting against the outrageous hike in the government-owned institution have camped outside Governor Babatunde Fashola in Alausa, Ikeja, vowing not to leave until their demand is met.

A 5:15 p.m. Classic FM Lagos news bulletin said the students have already locked the gate, set up fires and have started cooking beans at the place.

“The students say they are ready to sleep at the place,” the report said.

LASU students have vowed to ground Lagos rather than pay the new fees set at N250,000 to N350,000 for a year, excluding feeding and accommodation. The students have proposed N46,500 for returning students and N65,500 for freshers as the new tuition fee by Fashola has yet to shift ground.

Yesterday, eight LASU students arrested during Tuesday’s protest that grounded parts of the state were arraigned in court by the police but that has failed to deter their colleagues from continuing the struggle.
