Igbo School in the State of Michigan, United States, is set to hire Igbo Language teachers for its 2014 summer programme.
“Our children and youth are appealing that we help them learn Igbo Language and their Igbo heritage. If you can fluently speak, read, and write Igbo Language, then you have a well-paying teaching job for a 4-week Igbo School programme, starting on Monday, July 7, 2014. You will not only be handsomely paid but also will receive other fringe benefits from Igbo community!”
The foregoing appeal was part of a statement issued by the Igbo Cultural Association of Michigan (ICAM), United States of America, and co-signed by the chair and other key officers of the association. According to the statement, ICAM is more than ever committed to organise and render a state-of-the-art summer programme to Igbo sons and daughters in the U.S.
Denonstrating its commitment and seriousness of the programme, it employed the Igbo adage: “Ihe á»kụká» bu mmiri na-achụ, dị ya mkpa.” (Whatever the chicken is chasing in the rain must be important to it).
It noted: “While we dream and wish for the day we will pack and relocate our children to Nigeria, where we all came from and where they will learn Igbo and their history, we can start teaching them our Igbo language here. Other ethnic groups are smartly doing so. Why can’t the Igbo families in Michigan?
“ICAM has assembled well-grounded experts in management and education to plan and conduct a 2014 Igbo education programme of the highest order. Already we have started receiving students and families for the program! We have secured a venue! We have drawn an enriched curriculum! We are ready!”
