Jimoh Ibrahim loses yet another senior journalist as Saturday Newswatch Deputy Editor dies

Tragedy has struck at Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim’s media empire for the third time in just over four months following the death today of Toyin Obadina, Deputy Editor of Saturday Newswatch. Obadina was said to have been attacked by armed robbers in the wee hours of yesterday on his way home from the paper’s Broad Street headquarters in Lagos after putting yesterday’s edition of the paper to bed. He died today at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

His colleague Biodun Akomolafe lamented on Obadina’s Facebook page: “Oh! Again! We’ve lost another gem and a friend in the media. My indefatigable, loyal and committed Deputy Editor at Saturday Newswath, Gentleman Toyin Obadina is gone. He was shot by daredevil armed robbers near his residence in Ikorodu, Lagos in the early hours of Saturday while returning from the office. We all left the office very late on Friday after the production of the Saturday Newswatch which he supervised. REST IN PEACE my competent Editor.”

News Express reports that Daily Newswatch lost its Photo Editor, Tunde Ogundeji, on Sunday, September 22. Less than two weeks earlier, death had visited the media empire of Lagos businessman, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, plucking away another veteran journalist, Mr. Augustine Madu-West, Kano Bureau Chief of National Mirror, also owned by Barrister Ibrahim, on September 12.
