Sudan’s Joint Force of Armed Movements said Sunday that it destroyed 49 combat vehicles belonging to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and captured 70 fighters in coordination with the Sudanese army.

Joint Force spokesperson Mutawakil Ali Wakeel said in a statement that the group, working with the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Popular Resistance in the desert front, had eliminated a mobile RSF convoy.

The clashes inflicted heavy losses in personnel and equipment on the paramilitary group, he said.

The desert front covers areas across northern and western Sudan extending to the borders with Chad and Libya.

“The operation resulted in the destruction of 49 combat vehicles and the seizure of 30 vehicles in good condition, along with a fuel tanker,” Wakil said, adding an assessment of the operation was continuing.

He said the forces also captured 70 RSF fighters, seized a large number of batteries used to operate drones and inflicted further personnel and equipment losses on the group.

Four members of the Joint Force were killed in the clashes, he added.

The RSF has issued no immediate comment on the report.

Alongside Blue Nile state in southeastern Sudan and the western Darfur region, the three states of the Kordofan region — North, West and South Kordofan — have witnessed clashes between the army and the RSF since Oct. 25.

Sudan has been engulfed in a war between the army and the RSF since April 2023, killing tens of thousands and displacing around 13 million people, according to UN and international (AA)
