Jonathan, Sanusi show love in Switzerland

Claims in some quarters about an alleged strain in relations between President Goodluck Jonathan and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, appear to have been exaggerated going by the show of love and camaraderie displayed by both men at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held last week in Davos, Switzerland.

This climaxed at the ‘Nigeria Night’, last Thursday, January 23. Photos of the night in the possession of News Express show President Jonathan and Governor Sanusi warmly shaking hands and smiling broadly in a spontaneous manner as they exchanged pleasantries.

Another set of photos showed a similar display by Governor Sanusi and Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke.

Rumours of a strain in relations between President Jonathan and Governor Sanusi had made the rounds at the height of the controversy over the letter written by the Governor to the President drawing his attention to the failure of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to remit billions of dollars in crude oil revenues. Some reports claimed that Sanusi had been forced to go on terminal leave while others claimed that he had been asked to resign but the CBN Governor has since clarified that he is serving out his tenure early June and that a terminal leave is out of the question.

The ‘Nigeria Night’ in Davos was one of fun and laughter, with award-winning R&B/Soul star Timi Dakolo thrilling the dignitaries in attendance with hit after hit, including his inspirational single ‘Great Nation’.

Apart from President Jonathan, Governor Sanusi and Minister Allison-Madueke, other heavyweights at the event included Nigeria’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein; Fidelia Njeze; Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote; apostle of Africapitalism Tony Elumelu; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Bala Mohammed and his wife Aisha; and British-Ghanaian top fashion designer Ozwald Boateng.
