Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has ordered the demolition of the State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yenagoa, the state capital. News Express had last Thursday reported the sign board and flags at the secretariat were vandalised by policemen reportedly sent by Governor Dickson.
The governor in a statement issued over the weekend by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, disclosed that the secretariat has been earmarked for demolition to make way for a bridge to be constructed by his administration.
The statement said that the police and other security agencies in the state have been directed to take over the APC secretariat preparatory to its demolition.
“As a responsive government, we will not abandon what is clearly our constitutional duty to provide security and ensure that people go about their legitimate duties without any form of molestation and same for the APC and any other party that is lawfully registered and recognised as a political party in Nigeria,” Governor Dickson said in the statement.
He meanwhile urged APC’s national leadership to urgently resolve the leadership tussle in the Bayelsa APC as it could create security problems for the state.
