The Cross River State Police Command has commenced investigation into the discovery of the lifeless body of an unidentified male teenager, estimated to be about 16 years old, found in Yahe River in Yala Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, according to a press release by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, on Monday, November 2, 2026, was reported on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. by the Officer-in-Charge of Yahe Outstation, ASP Ekurbe Abi.
According to the police, the body was recovered from the river with the head severed, while bloodstains observed at the scene raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the death.
“The corpse was subjected to medical examination and deposited in the mortuary, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the release stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed a thorough investigation to ensure anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
The Command appealed to residents of Yahe and neighbouring communities to report any missing person matching the description or provide credible information to assist investigation.
Such information can be reported at the nearest police station or through the Command Control Room on 0704 177 7060 or 0705 335 5415.
The police assured the public that further developments will be communicated as investigation progresses. (The Guardian, excluding headline)
