Kano NDC governorship candidate, Gwarzo
The New Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has questioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of his name and that of his running mate from the list of candidates for the 2027 governorship election.
Gwarzo raised the concerns during an interview on Arise News, saying the commission published the list on October 10 without including either of their names, despite what he described as their compliance with all electoral requirements.
He said INEC did not notify them of any problem with their candidacy or provide an explanation for leaving their names off the list.
The candidate also questioned the timing of a Federal High Court order issued on October 27, directing the commission not to publish their names.
According to him, the court order came after INEC had already excluded them from the October 10 list.
“My question is why our names were omitted in the first place, before the court order was issued, and why we were not informed if an injunction had been filed,” he said.
Gwarzo suggested that interests outside the electoral process might have influenced the commission’s decision.
“There appears to be an understanding behind the scenes between INEC and people with other interests,” he alleged.
He maintained that INEC should explain why he and his running mate were excluded from the candidates’ list before the court issued its directive. (The Sun)
