Ailing Anuoluwapo
For Moses Joshua, a carpenter, every day is like a ticking time bomb. This is because his 11-year-old daughter, Anuoluwapo, has a hole in her heart, and doctors say she needs urgent surgical intervention to correct it, so she can live a healthy life.
The snag, however, is that he needs to raise a whopping N25million – N20million for surgery, and N5million for travel expenses. And in quick time too. Doctors warn that delay is dangerous.
But how does a carpenter raise such money? This is why he has come to the public domain, to seek help from well-meaning Nigerians, so that his daughter could have another chance at proper living.
“I am here to appeal to well-meaning Nigerians to help save my beloved daughter, Anuoluwapo. She has been diagnosed with congenital heart disease otherwise known as ‘hole-in-the-heart’ and doctors say we would need N20million for surgery to correct it in India. Besides, she also has a big hole at the back of her mouth, which also needs correcting. Even as I speak, I have spent all the money I have and do not know where else to turn to. This is why I decided to come to a national newspaper like The Nation, to reach out to kind-hearted Nigerians. Please, I do not want my daughter to die,” Joshua pleaded.
This is the second time Joshua will be going public with his plea. The first time it was published in The Nation was in April, 2021; but he said nothing came forth in terms of donations, hence his reason for coming out again.
A letter from the office of The Head, Medical Records, Lagos University Teaching Hospital and titled: Re: Please Help Save 6 Years Old Daughter With Holes In Her Heart LUTH Hospital Number 679361, had read in part:
“Following a series of tests by these consultants, we concluded that the young girl suffers from CYANOTIC CONGENITAL HEART DISEASES. Paediatric Electrocadiography done on 5th January, 2017 reported “a large defect in the upper septum suggestive of Tetralogy of Fallot” as attached…
“I have confirmed that Anuoluwapo would require URGENT HEART SURGERY in INDIA.”
The letter was signed by Dr. O. J. Sokunbi.
Then the required fee was N15million; but it has now risen to N20million; and Joshua fears for time.
