Gunmen
Suspected kidnappers have abducted six people, including two secondary school students, in an attack on Nuru Suraj Estate, Millennium City, Kaduna.
The attackers reportedly invaded the estate shortly after midnight on Tuesday, abducting eight people from two neighbouring houses before releasing two elderly women because of their age.
A resident, Maman Hamid, whose house is close to those of the victims, said the attackers gained access to the estate through its second gate.
She said the incident threw residents into panic, adding that military personnel pursued the kidnappers, leading to the rescue of some victims, although six people remained in captivity.
Abdullahi Wada, whose two grandchildren were among those abducted, confirmed the incident, saying the attackers first stormed his daughter’s house and took the two boys.
According to him, the boys, aged 14 and 13, are students of Junior Secondary School II and Junior Secondary School I, respectively.
He said the kidnappers subsequently invaded a neighbouring house, where they abducted a man, his wife and their two children.
Wada said two elderly women who were also taken during the operation were released by the attackers because of their age.
He described the incident as distressing and called on the authorities to take urgent action to secure the release of those still in captivity.
“Anyone who has experienced something like this knows the kind of pain and distress the victims and their families are going through,” he said.
He appealed to the government and security agencies to do everything necessary to address the situation and ensure the safe return of the victims.
Another resident, Muhammad Abbas, said he and his wife were watching television in their room shortly before midnight when they heard gunshots.
“We immediately switched off the television set, and I tried calling a friend but could not reach him. He later called me back to inform me of what had happened,” he said.
The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached by telephone for comments.
However, a senior security officer, who was not authorised to speak publicly, confirmed the incident and said an investigation had commenced.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, and his team were also said to have visited the community to assess the situation.
The latest attack has renewed concerns over the safety of residents in Millennium City, a growing residential area on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis that has witnessed repeated kidnapping incidents.
On October 6, 2026, suspected kidnappers reportedly abducted Ahmed Abubakar, his wife and their infant daughter, Fatima, from Alrahus Estate in Millennium City. The family was later rescued.
Police authorities had also announced the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers and four alleged informants during operations around Millennium City and Maraban Rido on October 12. AK-47 rifles were reportedly recovered during the operations.
In another incident on October 1, suspected kidnappers killed a man identified as Sikiru Shuaibu at BabbanSauraPW, while his wife, Hafsat Sikiru, and their 14-year-old son, Abdulsalam, were reportedly still in captivity weeks after the attack.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Kaduna State Government, led by the Chief of Staff, recently visited the community to reassure residents of the government’s and security agencies’ efforts to address the security challenges in Millennium City.
The delegation urged residents to provide security agencies with credible information that could help identify suspected informants and disrupt kidnapping networks. (Daily Trust)
