First Lady Oluremi Tinubu
The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is set to headline a massive political rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday, as governors, ministers and other influential stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North Central geopolitical zone intensify mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.
The rally, scheduled for Saturday, October 10, is expected to bring together thousands of party supporters, political office holders, women and youth groups from the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in what the APC leadership has described as the “mother of all rallies”.
North Central APC stakeholders reached this decision at a high-level meeting in Abuja on Thursday, chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe.
The meeting, attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, governors, deputy governors, ministers, National Assembly members and other political office holders, unanimously endorsed a coordinated regional mobilisation strategy ahead of the rally.
According to a statement issued at the end of the meeting and signed by Yilwatda, the gathering will serve as a major demonstration of the North Central region’s political solidarity with the Tinubu administration and its determination to support the President and Vice President for a second term.
The APC National Chairman, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said participating governors, ministers, lawmakers and other stakeholders had agreed to deploy their political structures and grassroots networks to ensure massive participation in Saturday’s event.
He described the planned gathering as the “mother of all rallies”, saying its central objective was to demonstrate the region’s collective commitment to re-electing Tinubu and Shettima in the 2027 general elections.
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule will host the rally, with the First Lady expected to take centre stage alongside prominent APC leaders from the region.
Mrs Tinubu’s involvement is expected to add political momentum to the mobilisation exercise, particularly among women and grassroots support groups.
The meeting also reaffirmed North Central APC stakeholders’ determination to strengthen political coordination across the zone, deepen grassroots engagement, and consolidate support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket ahead of the next general elections.
Stakeholders acknowledged the leadership role of the SGF, Senator Akume, in bringing together political leaders from across the region to pursue a common agenda.
They also commended Governor Sule for agreeing to host the rally, describing the event as an important demonstration of unity and political commitment among party leaders in the zone.
According to the statement, preparations for the rally include arrangements for governors, ministers, legislators, party executives, women, youth organisations, and other grassroots political groups from the six states and the FCT to participate.
The participating stakeholders unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to hosting the rally successfully and to sustaining political activities aimed at securing another presidential mandate for Tinubu and Shettima.
Earlier, Yilwatda expressed condolences to the families of victims of the recent Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State and to those who lost their lives in a mining-related tragedy in Niger State.
He described both incidents as painful national losses and extended sympathies to the bereaved families and affected communities.
Saturday’s rally comes amid growing political mobilisation by APC stakeholders across the North Central geopolitical zone ahead of the 2027 elections.
The planned gathering follows consultations among political leaders in the region to strengthen party structures, harmonise political interests, and build a united front in support of the President’s re-election ambition.
The North Central zone, comprising Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, alongside the FCT, is expected to play a significant role in the ruling party’s political calculations as preparations for the 2027 presidential contest gather momentum.
The Lafia event is therefore being positioned by its organisers as a major political show of strength, intended to demonstrate the capacity of the region’s APC leadership to mobilise supporters behind the President and his deputy. (The Nation)
