The UK government is preparing to hold talks with defence companies and organisations responsible for critical national infrastructure as concerns grow over potential security threats linked to Russia.

Security Minister Dan Jarvis is expected to meet industry groups representing critical infrastructure providers, while Armed Forces Minister Louise Sandher-Jones will hold discussions with organisations representing defence companies.

The meetings are intended to strengthen coordination between the government and key industries and improve preparedness against potential threats, including sabotage and cyberattacks targeting critical sectors.

The Cabinet Office said Russia continues to pose a significant security challenge to the UK and its interests overseas.

“Russia poses an enduring and significant threat to the UK and its interests around the world,” the government said.

The planned briefings come amid wider concerns across Europe over alleged Russian interference, sabotage and other forms of hostile activity.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Andy Burnham accused Russia of having “used every means at their disposal to spread lies and disinformation”. Moscow rejected the accusation, saying such comments were “stoking anti-Russian sentiment”.

Poland has also raised concerns over a fire at a Starlink ground station, which authorities described as an act of sabotage intended to disrupt internet services supporting Ukraine’s military. Polish authorities, however, stopped short of directly attributing the incident to Russia. (Arise Nws)
