Sacked Ebonyi Commissioner for Works, Engr Mbam
The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has ordered the immediate removal of the State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Mbam, from office.
The directive was officially communicated on Saturday via a Public Service Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor.
According to the official statement, Governor Nwifuru instructed the outgoing commissioner to immediately hand over all government properties in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Additionally, Engr. Mbam has been directed to transfer all administrative responsibilities of the Ministry of Works to the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, pending further directives from the state government.
The official statement read in part:
“The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI, GGCEHF has directed the immediate removal from office of the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam.”
While the announcement reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to “delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure,” it did not disclose specific reasons for the commissioner’s abrupt termination.
This latest executive action marks the final exit of Engr. Mbam from the cabinet following a history of regulatory friction.
In February 2026, Governor Nwifuru previously suspended Mbam alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi-Abara, over allegations of dereliction of duty.
While the earlier February directive was a temporary suspension, the September 19 announcement explicitly confirmed an outright removal from office. (Channels TV)
