The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports claiming that the party does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that it has candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold.
The party described the reports as false and intended to undermine its growing political presence ahead of the elections.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, on Saturday, the NDC said it had duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where elections would take place in 2027.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” the party said.
The NDC maintained that it was not a regional party, claiming that it had structures, candidates and supporters across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The party specifically listed its governorship candidates in the 12 states it said had been falsely identified in the reports.
They are Senator Kabiru Marafa in Zamfara; Rtd Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim in Borno; Hon. John Odey in Cross River; Babanta Michael Okon in Akwa Ibom; Nwofe Boniface in Ebonyi; Yakubu Solomon Ndam in Plateau; Ilu-Barde Aliyu in Katsina; Alhaji Umar Usman Besse** in Kebbi; Jonga Yahaya Gabakau in Yobe; Dutse Aminu Sani in Jigawa; Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani in Taraba; and Abdu Sidi Bomi in Niger State.
The party also urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information before publishing reports about political parties and their candidates.
“Journalism thrives on truth, not rumors. Peddling unverified propaganda only erodes public trust in the media and in our democracy,” the statement said.
The NDC said it would remain focused on what it described as issue-based politics and would not be distracted by what it called sponsored falsehoods.
The party further described itself as the preferred political platform for Nigerians seeking an alternative to the current political order, citing security, job creation and accountability among the issues it intends to campaign on in 2027.
“The rescue mission has started,” the NDC declared.
