Presidential and VIP jets are often fitted with luxurious cabins, private bedrooms, meeting rooms, advanced communications systems and other features designed to provide comfort, security and efficiency.

Some governments also use modified commercial aircraft as official presidential transport, while wealthy individuals have spent hundreds of millions of dollars buying and customising aircraft to their preferences.

1. Air Force One – $660 million

The United States presidential aircraft is among the most recognisable government jets in the world.

The US presidential air transport fleet includes two specially configured Boeing 747-200B aircraft designated VC-25A. The term “Air Force One” is used as the call sign whenever the US president is aboard a US Air Force aircraft.

The aircraft Is equipped to serve as a flying command centre, allowing the president and senior officials to communicate securely while travelling.

2. Airbus A380 – $600 million

An Airbus A380 reportedly commissioned for Saudi businessman and royal family member Prince Alwaleed bin Talal became one of the most talked-about private aircraft projects.

The aircraft was reportedly valued at about $400 million before extensive customisation increased the overall cost.

The A380’s enormous size offered the possibility of transforming the aircraft into a flying luxury residence, with space for lavish private and entertainment facilities.

3. Airbus A340-600 – $275 million

An Airbus A340-600 associated with Jordan’s royal family is another aircraft frequently included among the world’s most expensive VIP jets.

The wide-body aircraft stretches almost 76 metres and is powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines.

Bangladesh’s presidential aircraft is a Boeing 777-300ER, one of the world’s largest and longest-range commercial aircraft.

5. Airbus A340-313 – $260 million

Germany’s government has used specially configured Airbus aircraft for presidential and official government travel.

The Airbus A340-313, named “Konrad Adenauer”, has served as part of Germany’s government transport fleet.

Unlike conventional private jets, aircraft of this size can accommodate large government delegations while providing dedicated facilities for official business and long-distance diplomatic travel.

The Sultan of Brunei is associated with one of the world’s most lavish VIP Boeing 747 aircraft.
