Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has commenced legal and administrative processes to recover its assets, funds and properties allegedly controlled by members of its dissolved third Directorate of State, warning that only the newly constituted leadership is authorised to act on behalf of the movement.
The group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the organisation was taking steps to reclaim its resources across the world following the dissolution of the third administration.
He warned that individuals allegedly attempting to conceal or dissipate IPOB’s assets would be held accountable.
Powerful urged IPOB members, coordinators, chapters, and supporters worldwide to disregard any correspondence, statement, or representation that does not originate from the Office of the Head of the Directorate of State, Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ.
He added that continued dealings with the dissolved third administration or its former members would amount to a violation of the group’s code of conduct.
“The era of imposture, unauthorised representation and internal sabotage is over. The Supreme Leader’s decision stands. The new Directorate of State is fully operational, globally recognised and backed by the full weight of the movement’s constitution and international notifications,” he said.
According to him, those removed from office no longer have the authority to speak on behalf of IPOB, adding that relevant authorities had been notified of the leadership change.
He further claimed that the former officials’ access to the group’s assets was being systematically withdrawn and warned that any further actions by them would attract accountability.
Powerful maintained that IPOB remained committed to what he described as the peaceful restoration of Biafra under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu.
The spokesperson also claimed that the organisation had formally notified the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, as well as 72 countries and territories, of the dissolution of the third Directorate of State and the inauguration of the fourth administration headed by Chris Nwaọgụ.
According to him, the notifications included copies of IPOB’s Code of Conduct, which he described as the movement’s supreme constitutional instrument governing its operations and leadership succession.
Quoting the code, Powerful said the authority to appoint, suspend, or dismiss principal officers rests exclusively with IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, except where such powers are expressly delegated.
He said Kanu had exercised that authority to dissolve the former leadership and appoint the new Directorate of State, insisting that the decision was final.
Powerful listed countries allegedly notified of the transition include Israel, Italy, Germany, Canada, Kuwait, Switzerland, South Africa, Brazil, Ghana, Russia, South Korea, Austria, India, Malaysia, Venezuela, Japan, Spain, France, Finland, Norway, and Australia, among others.
He added that the Directorate of State, led by Chris Nwaọgụ, is now the only legitimate channel through which the group conducts its international affairs. (TRIBUNE)
