The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved a cooperative framework for the state with a focus on the environment as it prepares to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the state.

This was contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, and made available to journalists in Awka om Tuesday.

According to Mefor, the framework was reached during 10th meeting of the state Executive Council held at the Light House on Monday, August 24, 2026.

He said the Council made several far-reaching decisions aimed at deepening governance, economic growth, and environmental sustainability in the state.

Mefor explained that Anambra’s 35th Anniversary with the theme, “Our Environment, Our Future” slated for August 27, 2026 will Focus on the Environment.

Whiie noting that the celebration will spotlight efforts toward a clean and green Anambra and further address environmental challenges threatening the state, the Commissioner reeled out the major highlights to include a tree-planting campaign and a media chat with Mr. Governor.

Other frameworks approved by the ANSEC were, “A regulatory framework for cooperatives in Anambra State. The framework sets irreducible operational standards to ensure viability, scalability, and protection of members’ investments.

“It is also designed to strengthen COFAS in discharging its responsibilities and to position cooperatives for more organised contributions to the state’s economic growth and development.

“The Council admonished members and political office holders to wield power responsibly and with restraint. It emphasised that Power must be deployed for public purposes and the common good, in line with democratic ideals, and must not be abused.

“The economics of the Anambra Aerotropolis was reviewed. The project is envisioned as an export emporium and economic gateway to eastern Nigeria. Key components include the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC), and an entertainment hub, all to be located within the free trade zone.

“Council reviewed the progress report on market regeneration and modernisation and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.

“The ongoing regeneration of Onitsha Main Market is on track for delivery as planned and will serve as a model for similar projects across the state. Council noted that these foundational steps, though demanding, are necessary to prevent Anambra from sliding into a chaotic urban slum and to place it on the path to becoming a clean and green smart megacity.”
