The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, on Monday confirmed that a security incident occurred around the institute, assuring that investigations were ongoing and promising to provide details once facts had been established.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs Department of NIPSS, Dr Osime Samuel, the institute said the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday but was swiftly contained through the prompt intervention of security personnel and relevant security agencies.
"The situation was promptly brought under control through the swift response of security personnel and relevant security agencies," the statement said.
The institute assured participants, staff, residents and the public that there was no threat to lives or property within the institution and that normal activities had continued uninterrupted.
"There is currently no threat to the safety of participants, staff, residents, or facilities of the Institute, and normal activities are continuing as scheduled," NIPSS stated.
According to the institute, security agencies had commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, cautioning against speculation while the process remained ongoing.
"As investigations are ongoing, it would be premature to speculate on the nature, scope, or outcome of the event," the statement added.
NIPSS further noted that it could not verify details circulating on social media and other unofficial channels regarding the incident.
"The Institute is therefore unable to confirm details currently circulating on social media and other unofficial platforms," it said.
The management disclosed that it was working closely with the appropriate authorities and would release verified information as soon as it became available.
"NIPSS is working closely with the appropriate authorities and will provide verified information as soon as it becomes available," the statement noted.
The institute urged members of the public and media organisations to rely only on official communications from NIPSS and relevant security agencies for accurate information.
"We urge members of the public and the media to rely on official communications from the Institute and relevant security agencies," Dr Samuel said.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety, the management appreciated the professionalism displayed by security operatives involved in responding to the incident.
"The Management of NIPSS remains committed to the safety and security of all members of the Institute community and appreciates the professionalism of the security personnel and agencies involved in the response.
"Further updates will be communicated in due course," the statement added.
