The Amotekun Corps
…dismisses bandit invasion claims
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has directed operatives to commence round-the-clock patrols across the state amid reports of alleged bandit activities.
The agency, however, dismissed claims of any invasion by criminal elements, describing such reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure, the Public Relations Officer of the corps, Jimoh Adeniken, said the Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, had instructed all area commanders, coordinators, and heads of tactical units to intensify surveillance and maintain 24-hour patrols across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Mr Adeniken said the directive was part of proactive measures to strengthen security, prevent criminal activities, and reassure residents of their safety.
According to him, the security operations will focus on schools, churches, public institutions, critical national assets, and other vulnerable locations.
He explained that the move became necessary following growing concerns triggered by rumours of bandit presence in parts of the state.
“The Ondo State Security Network Agency wishes to assure the public that there is no verified report of bandits invading or occupying any community in the state,” the statement said.
The agency urged residents not to spread unverified information capable of causing panic, stressing the need for vigilance.
It also encouraged members of the public to go about their lawful activities while remaining security conscious and reporting any suspicious movement to relevant authorities.
Amotekun reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that operatives have been strategically deployed across the state to maintain peace and security. (The Nation)
