The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has denied claims that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, cancelled a planned protest over insecurity and economic hardship, saying he only communicated a decision taken by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding changes to the programme.
The church made the clarification in a statement posted by its public relations platform on X amid public debate over the fate of a prayer programme and rally announced by church leaders, as well as recent criticism directed at Adeboye over his comments on national issues and politics.
In the statement, RCCG said reports suggesting that Adeboye called off the protest were false.
According to the church, “Pastor E.A. Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship in Nigeria to members of the RCCG on the updated plan to have the grand finale of the Three Day Prayer Program in a centralized venue and hold a rally around the venue.”
The church also addressed claims that Adeboye has remained silent on issues affecting Nigeria.
RCCG said the cleric has spoken on matters including insecurity, corruption, economic hardship and governance, but has often chosen to do so through prayer, counsel and moral guidance rather than partisan political engagement.
The statement further rejected claims that Adeboye campaigned for any government in power, saying he has consistently encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and vote for candidates of their choice while maintaining neutrality on political parties.
RCCG said misleading claims about the church and its leader had circulated for too long and urged the public to rely on official channels for accurate information.
“The lies have gone on long enough. It stops now!!!” the statement said.
The church added that any claim concerning Adeboye or RCCG should be verified through its official communication platforms before being accepted or shared.
“Therefore, before accepting, sharing, or amplifying any claim concerning Pastor E.A. Adeboye or The RCCG, verify it through our official public relations platform, @rccg_pr,” it said.
The clarification comes weeks after Adeboye spoke about Nigeria’s political future during the May monthly Holy Ghost service. Speaking on the 2027 presidential election, he told worshippers that the outcome was already known to God.
“The one that will rule has been decided by God before we were born. He knows the end from the beginning,” Adeboye said.
He urged members to remain focused on prayer, soul-winning and their personal responsibilities rather than becoming consumed by political debates.
RCCG said the public deserves accurate information and called on media organisations, bloggers and commentators to verify reports before presenting them as fact. (Arise News)
