The fallen truck with loads of table water
By IGE ADEKUNLE
Scores of people narrowly escaped death at the ever busy Toll gate area of the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway, on Tuesday, when a truck loaded with table water lost control and overturned its content.
Mr Salau Hammed, the Commander, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Ota Unit, who confirmed the accident, said that the incident occurred at about 4:45 p.m.
Hammed explained that a truck loaded with table water, coming from Ilo-Awera to Toll-gate, lost control due to speeding.
He added that no life was lost in the accident.
The commander warned motorists against speeding and advised them to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before putting them on the highway.
“We thank God that no life was lost and no one sustained any form of injury in the accident.
“But TRACE is appealing to motorists, especially commercial motorcyclists, and those selling goods on highways to desist from such acts to avoid unnecessary loss of life,” he said.
Hammed also enjoined commercial buses stopping indiscriminately to pick passengers to stop to avoid articulated vehicles ramming into them.
He reiterated the corps’ commitment to enforce traffic rules and regulations, especially around Toll-gate axis and other areas within the unit’s corridor to prevent avoidable crashes.
Hammed said that TRACE personnel and other sister agencies were working assiduously to ensure that the vehicle is removed to ease free flow of traffic on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. (NAN)
