The Nigeria Police Force has launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who killed a couple in Asarara village, Kebbi State.

The command’s spokesperson, Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident on Saturday, saying an investigation had commenced to track down those responsible.

“As I am talking to you, the bodies are in one of the hospitals in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and examination to help unravel those behind the act,” he said.

He added that security agencies were on top of the situation and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators.

“We appeal to members of the public to provide any useful information that can assist the police in tracking down those responsible,” he added.

Residents of the community had earlier reported that the victims, identified as Muhammad Haruna and his wife, Habiba Abubakar, were killed in their home at about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the late Muhammad Haruna as a peaceful man.

“He was a quiet person who lived peacefully with everyone. We are all shocked by what happened because nobody can immediately point to any dispute involving him,” the source said.

The incident drew sympathisers to the family compound as news spread across the village.

The couple is survived by six children — four boys and two girls.(The PUNCH)
