Troops of Operation Enduring Peace during a clear out operation
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have repelled an attack by suspected Fulani militias on Jol Community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, rescuing two injured residents during the operation.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday when troops of Sector 6 OPEP deployed at Dakku responded to reports of an attack on the community by armed assailants.
According to the sources, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes.
“On arrival, troops made contact with the criminals and successfully repelled the attack, forcing the assailants to withdraw from the community,” the source said.
The troops subsequently rescued two locals who sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and evacuated them to a hospital for medical attention.
Security sources added that efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing attackers, while troops had intensified patrols and domination operations around the affected communities to prevent further attacks.
The latest incident is part of the growing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Mangu and Bokkos LGAs have continued to witness attacks, reprisals and criminal activities despite ongoing security operations by troops and other security agencies.
