Late Kogi nursing student Andrew Amehson
By BONIFACE AKARAH
The National Association of Olamaboro Students has demanded an urgent investigation into the death of a student, Andrew Amehson, after he was allegedly beaten by a security guard at Nana College of Nursing Sciences in Kogi State.
In a statement dated May 2, 2026 and signed by its President, Akwu ThankGod, the association said the incident occurred more than 120 hours earlier, with no official response from authorities or the institution.
“We write with deep anger, grief, and concern over the tragic and unacceptable death of Andrew Amehson… reportedly beaten to death by a security guard,” the statement read.
The group described the silence of relevant authorities as “disturbing and unacceptable,” noting that no visible investigation or accountability process had commenced.
“It has now been over 120 hours since this incident occurred, yet there has been no official statement, no visible investigation, and no sign of accountability,” NAOS stated.
The association said It had initially exercised restraint, expecting due process to be initiated, but expressed concern over the continued lack of response.
“The continued lack of response has eroded our confidence that justice is being pursued,” it added.
NAOS called for “an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation,” alongside the identification and prosecution of all those involved.
It also demanded “a public statement from the management of Nana College of Nursing Sciences” and the involvement of security agencies at federal, state, and local levels.
“We call on all security agencies… to act decisively and without delay,” the group said.
The association issued a deadline for action, warning that failure to respond could trigger protests.
“Failure to take visible and concrete action before 11:59 PM on May 3, 2026 will leave students… with no option but to embark on lawful collective actions,” it said.
Such actions, according to the statement, may include “the suspension of movement within Ibana Okpo township and organized demonstrations within and around Nana College of Nursing Sciences.”
NAOS stressed that the incident reflects a broader concern about student safety.
“The lives of our youths must not be treated with disregard. This pattern of reckless loss of life must end,” it stated.
The association called for justice for the deceased student, insisting that authorities must act promptly to address the situation and restore public confidence.
