A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, on Monday said he narrowly escaped a mob attack by suspected thugs at the Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano.
Zaura, a businessman and senatorial aspirant for Kano Central in the 2027 general elections, disclosed that several of his vehicles were vandalised while some of his supporters sustained injuries during the incident.
The attack occurred as Zaura and his supporters were en route to Meena Event Centre for the formal declaration of his senatorial ambition.
Speaking through his media aide, Dahiru Maiwuddadu, Zaura said a group of suspected hoodlums suddenly descended on his convoy, damaging vehicles and causing panic in the area.
He added that although he escaped unhurt, the attack created fear among traders and residents.
According to him, the assailants later moved to the GSM market at Farm Centre, where they reportedly went on a rampage, further heightening tension in the commercial hub.
Zaura commiserated with victims of the attack and commended security agencies for their prompt response in restoring order.
He, however, expressed concern over what he described as rising youth-related violence, calling for urgent measures to address its root causes and protect lives and property.
He urged security authorities to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice, warning that such acts could threaten peace and disrupt economic activities in the state.
The APC stalwart also appealed to youths to reject violence and embrace dialogue and lawful engagement, while reaffirming his commitment to policies that enhance security and economic stability in Kano Central.
He further assured affected traders of his support, describing them as critical to the state’s economy, and called for collective efforts to prevent a recurrence.
The incident has intensified concerns over security around major commercial centres in Kano, particularly as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. (TRIBUNE)
